UPDATED COVID-19 ATTENDANCE POLICY

All ticket holders, regardless of age, are required to show proof of full COVID vaccination or a negative test result (within 72 hours) from a healthcare provider for entry into the theatre. “Fully vaccinated” means that ticket holders have received their final vaccination dose of either the two-dose regimen of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or one dose of Johnson & Johnson at least 14 days before your performance date. 

Also, in accordance with state and local guidelines, face masks are required for entry. Masks must completely cover nose and mouth. Gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable. If wearing a face mask that does not comply with Metro policy, Portland’5 will provide a face mask for patrons. Masks must be worn at all times except while eating or drinking for brief periods. Prolonged periods of mask removal are not permitted for eating or drinking – masks must be worn between bites and sips.

Celebrate the power of books to create a stronger community by attending the 2022 Everybody Reads author event with Mira Jacob!

In partnership with Multnomah County Library and The Library Foundation, Literary Arts is proud to present a lecture by author Mira Jacob as the culminating event of Everybody Reads 2022. This year’s programming will center on Jacob’s illustrated memoir, Good Talk: A Memoir in Conversations. 

With the selection of Good Talk, Everybody Reads 2022 offers an opportunity to explore the complex issues surrounding growing up as a brown-skinned person in America. Set post-9/11 and pre-Trump election, the book begins with a conversation between Jacob and her half-Indian, half-Jewish six-year-old son, who asks her if white people are afraid of brown people. Both heartbreaking and hilarious, Good Talk explores racism, love, belonging, and family, and the conversations we need to have to heal.

About the author: 

Mira Jacob is a novelist, memoirist, illustrator, and cultural critic. Her graphic memoir Good Talk: A Memoir in Conversations was shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award, longlisted for the PEN Open Book Award, named a New York Times Notable Book, as well as a best book of the year by Time, Esquire, Publisher’s Weekly, and Library Journal. It is currently in development as a television series with Film 44.

Her work has appeared in The New York Times Book Review, Electric Literature, Tin House, Literary Hub, Guernica, Vogue, and the Telegraph.  She is currently the visiting professor at MFA Creative Writing program at The New School, and a founding faculty member of the MFA Program at Randolph College.
