The Pirates of Penzance
Light Opera of Portland (LOoP) is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of the beloved operetta, "The Pirates of Penzance," set to open on October 11th at the Portland5's Brunish Theatre. This timeless classic, composed by the legendary duo Gilbert and Sullivan, promises to deliver an unforgettable experience filled with humor, romance, and swashbuckling adventure.
Under the direction of Artistic Director Laurence Cox, the talented cast and crew have been working tirelessly to bring this delightful story to life. "The Pirates of Penzance" tells the tale of Frederic, a young man who, having been mistakenly apprenticed to a band of tender-hearted pirates, falls in love with the beautiful Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley. The production is known for its witty dialogue, clever lyrics, and memorable musical numbers, such as "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General" and "Poor Wand'ring One."
"We are incredibly excited to present 'The Pirates of Penzance' to the Portland community," said Cox. "This operetta is a true gem of the theater world, and we believe it will captivate audiences of all ages with its charm and comedic brilliance."
The production will feature an ensemble of talented local performers, including Aaron Lange as Frederic, Kari Ann Burgess as Mabel, and Laurence Cox as the Major-General. The cast is supported by a dedicated creative team, including Music Director Lissa Halsinger, Choreographer Marsha Kelly, and Set Designer David Ridley, who have all contributed to creating a visually stunning and musically enchanting production.
