The Neuroscience of Pleasure - Cancelled

It is with a heavy heart that we've decided to cancel two of our three Brain Awareness Season lectures: The Neuroscience of Pleasure with Larry Sherman, Ph.D., and Machines and the Mind with Leigh Hochberg, M.D., Ph.D. We didn't make this decision lightly, as so much time and energy has been spent by dozens of people to create this program. Given the uncertain times, it is the best decision to keep our community healthy.

That being said, we will for the time being still hold our June 29 lecture with Peter Hotez, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Hotez is an expert in vaccines and infectious diseases, and we hope he will provide some insights into COVID-19, in addition to the original topic of vaccines and autism myths, as we come out of this pandemic.

If you purchased tickets for these two cancelled lectures, you can receive a full refund at the point of purchase. Credit card refunds could take up to 14 days to process. If tickets were purchased via walk-up with cash, please email the box office to request a check, as the walk-up office is closed.

How your brain responds to music, love and chocolate

Larry Sherman, Ph.D.
Professor, Oregon National Primate Research Center
OHSU

Listening to beautiful music, falling in love and eating really good chocolate create intense feelings of pleasure – but why? OHSU neuroscientist Larry Sherman, Ph.D., joined by the Portland Chamber Orchestra and singer Naomi LaViolette, presents a fascinating multi-media discussion and concert on how the brain experiences pleasure. Diving into exciting new research – including what happens to the brain when love goes awry – and what we can learn from the monogamous prairie vole, Dr. Sherman mixes music, humor and neuroscience for an unforgettable, educational evening.

This unique lecture and performance will have a 15 minute intermission, and end at 9 p.m.
