Annette Gordon-Reed: 2022 Hatfield Lecture

Annette Gordon-Reed is a professor of history in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard Law School, and the award-winning author of six books. Her latest book, On Juneteenth, is a captivating blend of memoir and history that explores the violence and oppression that preceded and followed this celebration, what it means now, and how it relates to the larger fight for equality. Gordon-Reed is also the author of The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family, which won the Pulitzer Prize in history and the National Book Award for nonfiction along with fourteen other awards.

2022 Mark O. Hatfield Lecture Series

For over two decades, the Oregon Historical Society’s Mark O. Hatfield Lecture Series has earned a reputation for hosting America’s most prominent historians, biographers, and public officials. The series began at the suggestion of Senator Hatfield and continues as a tribute to his legacy of public service and as an opportunity to share stories of the people and events that have shaped American history. Past speakers include notable historians and authors David McCullough, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Cokie Roberts, and Isabel Wilkerson.

All lectures begin at 7pm PT at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. All ticket options will have access to a recording of each lecture for 21 days after the event. Virtual-only tickets which include a livestream of the lecture are available through the Oregon Historical Society.

In-person tickets can be purchased at portland5.com and in person at the Portland'5 Box Office. Series ticket prices include all third-party service and order fees. For in person single lecture tickets, a $5 processing fee will be added by Portland'5 at checkout.

Virtual-only tickets can be purchased through OHS here. Virtual ticketholders will be able to livestream the event as well as have access to a recording.

All ticketholders will be emailed a recording of the lecture (closed captioning included) 48 hours after the event. The recording will be available for 21 days.

Purchase a Signed Book

Copies of each speakers’ latest book (which include a signed bookplate) will be available for purchase before or after each lecture in the lobby of the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. You can also visit the OHS Museum Store Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm, or Sunday, 12pm to 5pm, or place your order by emailing museumstore@ohs.org or calling 503.306.5230. All purchases in the OHS Museum Store support the Oregon Historical Society’s mission.

UPDATED COVID-19 ATTENDANCE POLICY

All ticket holders, regardless of age, are required to show proof of full COVID vaccination or a negative test result (within 72 hours of this event) from a healthcare provider for entry into the theatre. “Fully vaccinated” means that ticket holders have received their final vaccination dose of either the two-dose regimen of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or one dose of Johnson & Johnson at least 14 days before your performance date. Be sure to have your ID with you as well.

Also, in accordance with state and local guidelines, face masks are required for entry. Masks must completely cover nose and mouth. Gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable. If wearing a face mask that does not comply with Metro policy, Portland’5 will provide a face mask for patrons. Masks must be worn at all times except while eating or drinking for brief periods. Prolonged periods of mask removal are not permitted for eating or drinking – masks must be worn between bites and sips.
