Jayanthi Raman's MARGAM: The Divine Path
Portland's renowned award-winning performer, choreographer and master artist Jayanthi Raman gathers a wonderful cast of dancers and professional musicians to showcase the divine dance of India, Bharatha Natyam. From the invocation to the finale, the audience will be spellbound by the expressive and rhythmic aspects of this classical dance form. The full length production has been choreographed by Jayanthi Raman featuring classical, folk, and contemporary elements all grounded by the traditional art Bharatha Natyam.
Twelve dancers from Jayanthi Raman Dance Company, led by Jayanthi Raman, along with three musicians perform in this dazzling production with exquisite costuming, stunning lighting and stage decor. Musicians include the vocalist, percussionist, and bamboo flautist.
Guest artist Oregon Poet Laureate Emeritus Paulann Petersen recites poetry for a special piece performed by Raman.
A well known scholar who has presented numerous full house performances, Jayanthi Raman is reputed for her professional quality productions, having received rave reviews across the nation. NEA Heritage Fellow and US Artists Fellowship nominee with OAC Fellowship recipient, she will also be releasing her third book on dance this evening after the show. UPDATED COVID-19 ATTENDANCE POLICY
All ticket holders, regardless of age, are required to show proof of full COVID vaccination or a negative test result (within 72 hours) from a healthcare provider for entry into the theatre. “Fully vaccinated” means that ticket holders have received their final vaccination dose of either the two-dose regimen of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or one dose of Johnson & Johnson at least 14 days before your performance date. Be sure to have your ID with you as well.
Also, in accordance with state and local guidelines, face masks are required for entry. Masks must completely cover nose and mouth. Gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable. If wearing a face mask that does not comply with Metro policy, Portland’5 will provide a face mask for patrons. Masks must be worn at all times except while eating or drinking for brief periods. Prolonged periods of mask removal are not permitted for eating or drinking – masks must be worn between bites and sips.
